Hummus- natural hormonal balance

Phytoestrogens, from the Greek, fito, meaning plant.

Phytoestrogens are a group of chemicals found in plants, similar to human estrogens. These plants contain flavonoids  that are able to increase estrogen production.
Estrogen is a very important hormone for both men and women. It is responsible for protecting our bodies against certain types of cancer, osteoporosis and heart disease, as well as for the maintenance of healthy joints, cholesterol levels and our reproductive capacity, proving to increase fertility in women.

There are synthetic treatments for estrogen replacement, but we can also
get it from food naturally.

Some foods with high concentrations of Phytoestrogens are flaxseeds, soy,
chickpeas, blueberries, garlic, onions and almonds.

We share this delicious recipe that contains three of these foods.

ALMOND HUMMUS
Preparation: 15 minutes
Yields: 1 ½ cup
1/2  cup = 218 calories

Although chickpeas  already have a little almond flavor, adding  almonds to hummus gives it a rich, nutty texture and  a delicious spin.

Ingredients:
1 cup of cooked chickpeas
1/2  cup of tahini
1/4 cup ground almonds
2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
2 cloves of grated garlic
1/4  cup of water
1 tbsp. chopped parsley (optional)
1 tsp. Cayenne
Juice of 1 lemon
Sea Salt to taste
Ground pepper

Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a food processor or blender until smooth.
Spread over toasted whole grain pita chips or combine with  cool cucumbers for a great summer snack.
